Building Champions on and off the court.

979 Red Claws Basketball was founded in 2025 by Coach Dekyron Nicks. Growing up on the west side of Bryan in a single-parent household, Coach Nicks experienced firsthand the impact that mentors and positive role models can have on a young person's life.

After receiving support from people who helped him become successful, he made it his mission to provide those same opportunities to the next generation. Inspired by his former college roommate who founded Baton Rouge Red Claws, he launched 979 Red Claws to serve athletes throughout the Brazos Valley.

"We develop hardworking, coachable athletes while building character, confidence, and leadership that lasts far beyond basketball."
